Painting Slugga Boyz, Completed

Well, the unit is now totally complete! I posed the twenty slugga boyz from Assault on Black reach with the nine slugga boyz I already had from an old ork boxed set, and their nob, bringing their total up to thirty models.

Here is a close up of the unit's nob, which is a spare Nob from Assault on Black Reach, with a scratchbuilt bosspole and power klaw:

Most of the big work was done, so I just powered through the remaining 14 boyz and finished up the unit! 20 Slugga Boyz, ready for action!

Painted Goblin Green on all the bases, and painted up Boy #6. 14 to go.

Painted Boltgun Metal in a heavy drybrush over the metal parts. I intentionally let some of the Tin Bitz show through so as to represent rust, etc.

Then I started finishing up one of the boyz, and when I went to do his eyes, I accidentally got some Blood Red on his left hand. Rather than touch up and fix the mistake, I decided to go with it... This particular ork just blew somebody away at close range, and got a face full of it.
Normally I don't go over the top with blood and gore on my models, but rarely, the model seems to ask for it.

Got a lot done today, it being the weekend. Painted Boy #3, then heavily drybrushed the remaining 17 with Snot Green on the skin areas, then painted Boy #4. 4 down, 16 to go.

Didn't get too much done this day, but basecoated the metal parts on half the boyz with Tin Bitz.

Basecoated all the leather parts Scorched Brown. Had to call it a night before I could finish painting up one of the boyz--that will be the next order of business.

Seeing as I had the day off, this day was productive. I basecoated the skin on all the slugga boyz with Orkhide Shade, and painted the surfaces of the bases Scorched Brown. After doing this for 20 models, the last thing I wanted to do was paint another single color 20 times, so I finished one of the models. 1 Slugga Boy down, 19 to go.

In the hopes of keeping me focused and getting these guys done in a reasonable timeframe, I've decided to keep a log of painting up the twenty Slugga Boyz that came in the Assault on Black Reach boxed set. Each day that I work on them, I'll put up a blog entry showing my progress.

So far I've managed to drill the gun barrels of all the sluggas, clean some parts, and assemble five boyz.
